Fitness Programme
Primrose Lodge boasts its own, in-house, well-equipped gymnasium. Physical activity has a number of proven benefits to the addict that is trying to overcome their addiction and be restored to full health. Physical activity increases the production of Serotonin and Endorphins – the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. It also increases self-esteem, strengthens the body, aids with sleep and reduces anxiety levels.
We introduce our patients to a healthier lifestyle that incorporates the mind, body and the spirit whilst at our clinic. Patients will have the opportunity to benefit from our fitness programme that will include gym time. All patients fitness plans are carefully monitored to ensure they are not overdoing it or transferring from one addiction to another. Our aim is to teach balance as many addicts find this very hard to achieve.
For those that come to us in a poor physical state, a slow introduction of gentle exercise will complement the rest of their treatment. We are not promoting fitness as such, just encouraging a healthier lifestyle and teaching patients how to look after every aspect of themselves. Here are just some of the reasons why we introduce physical exercise into our patient’s rehabilitation:
Benefits of Physical Exercise
- Improve mental health and mood
- Assists with a natural healthy sleep pattern
- Reduces anxiety and tension
- Strengthens muscles and bones
- Strengthens immune system and cardiovascular system
- Improves appetite
- Increases self esteem and encourages self care
- Improves overall balance, co ordination and physical ability to carry out daily tasks
- Assists with motivation
- It is enjoyable!
